Pteromys's Egoboo Stuff

Update 2008-08-02: These things were made for version 2.22. I haven't tested them in newer versions, so I have no clue if they still work.

So, here's my... um... Egoboo stuff. To play with one of these, just download its zip file and unzip it into one of your player's item folders. Enjoy!

Fire Domain

Fire Domain is a battle arena for four players... since we currently don't have network support, you really couldn't do much with this except crowd four people around one computer and beat each other to death...

...that is, until I added in a new creature. Now you have a set of AI-controlled opponents who'll fill in for missing players... I must say they fight rather well. Until we have network support, I hope the Firehoppers manage to entertain you.

The map features people-ejecting lava pits: if you fall in the lava, you fly into the air screaming, Mario-64-style... well, something to that effect. Also watch out for frights, falling rocks, and the occasional flash flood. You must have been through the Ash Palace in order to play.

Special thanks to Anti-Adventurer for the module concept and other ideas.

Bomb

Last updated July 11, 2004. (Download)

The bomb is a useful little tool for making a little fireball when you need one. Tap attack once to light a bomb and set it down... Or, hold down attack for a while and then release to throw a bomb. Any damage done to a bomb will detonate it. Bombs that enter water will be defused, but will still explode upon receiving any damage.

Landmine functionality added on July 11 - Set a bomb down on a bear trap to make a land mine (this feature is still a bit buggy). It also is now less likely to randomly hang the game when used in the vicinity of a troll.

Jack-in-a-Box

This is probably the most random weapon I've ever made. It's a poisonous jack-in-a-box. Set it down and it will bite the next enemy to walk by.

Box o' Gonnepowder

Is the bomb not giving you enough power? Well, it shouldn't anyway; it doesn't display a warning label. The box o' gonnepowder has a much wider blast radius, so you can hurt a lot more things with it... just make sure you don't hurt yourself!

Bridge of Light

Last updated September 4, 2004. (Download)

Isn't it annoying when that army of zombis you worked so hard to create ends up dying because they followed you across a lava pit? Wouldn't it be nice to build a bridge across the pit so everybody could get across safely? That's what this spell is for. Hold down attack to charge up a spell. A glow will appear at the spell's target point. Release attack to create a bridge to the target point. You can build bridges while other bridges exist, but you can only sustain the last bridge you created; previously created bridges will eventually collapse. Be careful... if you drop the book on the ground, you'll lose your concentration, and the last bridge you created will also fade away after some time.

You can force the collapse of the last bridge you created by aiming a spell at its point of origin (You'll see a flame appear there when you're aiming). A word of caution... other people who have the ability to disenchant objects can also destroy your bridges.

Bridges can't hold on to items! If you drop an item on a bridge, it'll fall straight through, and you'll have to jump after it if you want it back.

Now updated with a number of small refinements: You can actually see the beam of light (to reduce your chances of falling off), you can cast the spell in Zippy City without getting attacked, and you can cast the spell in Shadow Palace without fear of making the Blind Spots invisible.

Icicles

Last updated (minor) Sept. 4, 2004. (Download)

This spell lets you set some icicle traps. Hold down attack to summon a few icicles into the air in front of you. Release attack to send them into the sky. The next unfortunate creature to disturb the ground beneath them will have to dodge fast or be pinned down. Icicles can be destroyed by fire.

Whirlwind

If you've ever been mobbed by three or four armies of grub bugs in the plains of Bishopia, you know how it feels to be overwhelmed. You could hack your way out of the mess or use a weapon of mass destruction... but now you have another option: herd everyone into one location and then finish them all off with a few fireballs.

Hold down attack to charge up a spell. When the smoke begins to rise into the air, you can release attack to create a whirlwind that will suck in, or at least impede, nearby enemies. Tap attack again to kill the storm and throw its victims into the air. This is an advanced spell; only those who are very experienced in magic can use this book.

Size

Don't you wish you could just stomp on those annoying tranches and grub bugs? You can with the Book of Size! Charge up and cast a spell on yourself or a nearby friend... now you can squash just about anybody... but take care... being large and heavy, you're immobilized for a short time after landing. Oh, and don't ride mounts while supersized... your weight will simply crush them.

Due to some funny property of chest mimics in Zippy City, you can supersize chest mimics there too.

Fire Sword

Last updated June 12, 2004. (Download)

Powerful weapon, simple functionality. While you're defending with a shield in the other hand, the fire sword will charge up energy. When it has fully charged, you can swing it to throw a few fireballs. Be wary, lest you accidentally ignite your friends.
